Bastrop Police warn of new “Yellow Door Hanger Scam”
They say the scam may have originated in Missouri.
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Bastrop Police Department is warning of a new scam they’re referring to as the “Yellow Door Hanger Scam.”
Officers responded to a call on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 on Bonner Ferry in Bastrop about a trespasser. They say doorbell camera footage shows a white male exiting a gold Chevrolet Silverado pickup wearing a red shirt with gray shorts and white tennis shoes. He approached the home and left a yellow door hanger.
While investigating officers found a post on social media from the Hollister, Missouri Police Department warning of a “yellow door hanger scam,” They say scammers use the hangers to trick residents into calling a phone number on the tag. The people who answer pretend to be a business or government agency and ask for personal information.
Bastrop Police advise residents to never call any numbers on suspicious door hangers. They remind everyone to never provide personal, banking, or social security information to unknown callers and to report all suspicious activity to your local police department.
If you have information about this case or similar activity, call your local police department or the Bastrop Police Department at 318-281-1322.
