MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A northeast Louisiana police department no longer has enough money to operate. Therefore police operations have ceased and may not be up and running again for the next few months.

The Lake Providence Police Department shut down operations around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 28. Officials say they lack operating funds for the rest of the fiscal year, which runs into this summer.

The East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office says they will increase patrols in Lake Providence to compensate for the temporary loss of the police department.
