OUACHITA PARISH, La.— Major changes could soon reshape traffic flow in Ouachita Parish as officials update the region’s transportation plan.

The 2025 transportation plan update is the next step in creating a blueprint for improving local infrastructure.

“This is our 2025 transportation plan update, and the general public has the opportunity to attend several public meetings in the area. This is the first of many to come,” said Transportation Planner Doug Mitchell.

On Friday, Northeast Louisiana leaders and planners hosted an interactive open house to engage the public in the plan’s development. Community members were encouraged to provide feedback by writing notes and highlighting their biggest transportation concerns.

The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) is updated every five years. The latest version will address growth in safety, transit, highways, biking, walking and accessible transportation options.

Discussions have also centered on expanding lanes on local highways, though officials say this can only happen with the appropriate funding.

For those who missed the open house, the next one will be held later this summer, or residents can fill out surveys online through the MTP website.
