WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Residents in the Mount Vernon area of West Monroe are limited if they want to dine locally. People like Buddy Wade, Johnny and Judy Alford, and others want to eat at a place with a sense of community.

“We wanted a mom-and-pop stand where we can come in, sit and eat a meal, and talk to Justine back there,” said Wade.

Owner Jeanne Burge had a similar thought and decided to open Simpson’s Diner.

A place where people can feel comfortable.

“It’s nice to see people sit down and have face-to-face conversations,” said Burge.

“Just like a down-home restaurant, cafe, or whatever,” said Alford.

Burge was running another small lunch counter in town at one of the service stations but had to leave.
