CATAHOULA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Deputies with the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office are warning residents about multiple reports of bears in residential areas on or near Highway 3037.

People are urged to take precautions because one bear is large and there are smaller bears in the area.

Deputies are asking people to stay inside and keep pets indoors. They are also asking people not to approach, feed or take photos of the animals, and to secure garbage cans, pet food, bird feeders and other items that could attract wildlife.

If you do see a bear, remain calm, slowly back away and move to a safe location. Do not run from a bear.

If a bear is observed near your home or in a populated area, remain indoors and contact authorities.
