MONROE, La. (KNOE) - House Speaker Mike Johnson visited Monroe on Wednesday, but he wasn’t met with just praise.

Protestors gathered outside of Bayou Pointe, where Johnson spoke at a Congressional update lunch.

The protestors called for transparency, town halls and public representation, highlighting the $1,000 price tag for a table at the luncheon.

One protestor said the goal of the protest was to disrupt the ‘victory lap’ Speaker Johnson is taking for the Big Beautiful Bill.

“We are fighting against a lot of the propaganda and lies about these policies that are going to be enacted after the midterms. It’s going to affect people that you and I love and care about, and I think that what we are out here showing is that speaker Johnson needs a new lesson in Southern hospitality,” Protestor Conrad Cable said.

Speaker Johnson responded to the protest, saying “that woke progressive far-left policy is not what the American people and the people of Louisiana are in favor of.

During the luncheon, Speaker Johnson promoted the newly passed federal budget bill and addressing key issues from agriculture to education.

House Speaker Mike Johnson spent Tuesday touring Northeast Louisiana, promoting the newly passed federal budget bill and addressing key issues.
