WEST MONROE, LA (KNOE 8 News) - Ouachita Parish School Board members met Tuesday night, and one one hot topic on the agenda was the construction project at West Monroe High School's football stadium.

West Monroe's Principal Shelby Ainsworth said people will see changes as soon as the 2015-2016 football season ends.

"About the time that we're finished, we want work to began on the demolition of the visitor side bleachers," said Ainsworth.

The current visitor's bleachers will be gone next season and will be replaced with bench back seating. This will be the new home side section. An added bonus of switching the side of the home stands is that Rebel fans will have less glare as the sun sets.

"We want it to be a wonderful, friendly, competitive atmosphere at Rebel Stadium every Friday night," said Ainsworth. "That's one of the things I think our home folks will appreciate."

Principal Ainsworth said the stadium will stretch from one end of the field to the other and will be equipped with other amenities.

"We will have a nice elevator in the back for those who need to reach the new press box, and a nice concession and restroom areas underneath the stadium, “ he said.

Regular maintenance has helped extend the life of the stadium, but Ainsworth and school board member Scott Robinson agree it's time for something bigger and better.

"We had renovated the stadium some within the last 20 years since I've been on the board, but we're at a point where we can't really expand it," said Robinson

The expansion will take about seven months to complete, and the project is expected to cost about $6.5 million dollars. Getting bids for the project is up for discussion at Tuesday's school board meeting. Once completed, the new West Monroe Stadium, will hold a crowd of 5,400 Rebel fans and their rivals.
