Monroe Police: Overnight Bicyclist nabbed with hot weed-eater

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News & MPD) - A Monroe Police officer on patrol early Friday morning nabbed a bike rider making off with a stolen weed-eater. After a foot chase, James Brantley was arrested.

At about 2:30 Friday morning, Sgt. Albert Edmiston was conducting patrol saturations in the downtown Monroe Business District area when he observed a subject riding a bike on North 3rd street.

Closer observation of the subject, later identified as James Brantley, revealed he was carrying a Stihl weed-eater and a backpack. As Sgt. Edmiston approached Brantley, a foot chase ensued ending with the apprehension of Brantley in the 300 block of Desiard Street.

Further investigation revealed Brantley had just committed 2 residential burglaries in the 1200 block of Riverside and the 200 block of Stubbs.

Items stolen were immediately returned to thankful residents who were unaware they had been victims of a burglary.

Brantley was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on charges related to burglary.
