WEST MONROE, La (KNOE 8 News) - Back in July the church bell at Trenton Baptist church was stolen, now it's back in it's steeple and the members couldn't be happier.
"It's just one of those situations that you don't miss it until it's gone and I guess since this has happened we have a little bit more respect," says Chuck Lee, church superintendent.
Deacon Robert Henderson says now that the bell is back everyone who comes to see it wants to also ring it.
"Because we never noticed the bell while it was here as much now we have a lot people saying is it the same bell, it is the same bell," says Henderson.
He says without antique dealer Harold Parker they might not have ever seen or heard the bell again.
"I had no idea it had been stolen and I already had several people came and looked at it and some big offers on the bell," says Parker.
He says a man claiming to be a dealer called him about selling the bell, so he bought it and began fixing it up.
"One of my friends I said something about a bell and they said Harold we saw it on KNOE news where a bell was stolen from a church in West Monroe," says Parker.
He says with the help of some of the members they were able to weld the bell into place so hopefully it won't ever be stolen from the church again.
"It was bad it was taken and it was bad that it happened like it did, but it was good that it was returned, I was just glad to be able to return it to it's home," says Parker.
Parker actually repaired the bell and brought it back to the church to help hang it.
The church says now they will never take it for granted and it'll be rung every Sunday.
