KAQY News is located in Monroe, Louisiana, covering northeast Louisiana, Union and Ashley Counties in Arkansas, and Warren and Adams Counties in Mississippi. KAQY is owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television and is a sister station to CBS affiliate KNOE. Our offices and studios are located on Oliver Road in Monroe, and our transmitter is located in the town of Columbia in Caldwell, Parish. KAQY offers the best in the news, entertainment, weather, sports, and investigative reporting. In addition to providing high-quality programming from both the ABC and CBS television networks, we also offer programs from the CW network.

Job Summary:

If you are a morning or weekend anchor and want to start growing as a main anchor, KAQY is for you. KAQY is looking for an experienced journalist with a proven track record of leadership and community involvement to anchor our 5:30pm and 10pm newscasts Monday-Friday. KAQY prides itself on leadership on air, online and in our community. Our anchors are leaders in the newsroom, lending a hand to other journalists while developing multi-platform content of their own. Their leadership extends outside of work, too, where they are expected to embrace the people and culture, becoming involved in local organizations and nonprofits. The ideal candidate thrives when working with a team, exhibits strong editorial judgment, and is willing to do what it takes to get the best story. Anchors are expected to regularly create compelling original content, develop story ideas and sources, and work with the news staff to generate innovative, interesting newscasts.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Anchor daily newscasts, as well as breaking news cut-ins
• Development of sources and stories within the community
• Engaging with viewers in the community and over social media
• Work with journalists to grow their skills
• Produce 5:30pm and 10pm KAQY newscasts Monday-Friday and special reports
• Make community appearances on behalf of the station

• 2-4 years of anchor or reporting experience
• Degree in broadcast journalism or related field
• Strong, demonstrated news judgment
• Superior writing and copy editing skills
• Live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills
• Proficiency in story creation and newscast production
• Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software (such as ENPS & Edius)
• Carry, shoot and edit video with digital cameras

Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, and must maintain a professional attitude at all times. This position requires availability to work all shifts and may require holiday work.
