For Tuesday’s Zoo Buddies segment, Lisa Taylor, with Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo, brought in a black-necked swan named Beauty.

A few interesting facts Taylor points out about the black-necked swan is that they are originally from South America and are the smallest in the swan species. The black-necked swan is known to be the fastest flying swans in the species. Taylor says these swans can fly up to 50 miles per hour.

Their breeding season is around November, where they go to Patagonia in South America to breed. You can visit Beauty at Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo’s exhibit in the lagoon.

Rendezvous at the Zoo is happening Thursday, March 26. Tickets are $25 ahead of time. Lisa says if you purchase at the gate tickets are $30.

This event is a fundraiser for the zoo. Half of the proceeds will go towards the zoo.
