Wossman Head Coach Dean Smith relieved of his duties

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Wossman High School Head Coach Dean Smith has been relieved of his duties as of Friday morning, KNOE has learned.

Smith was in his sixth year as the Wildcats head football coach, going 6-6 this season and losing in the second round of the playoffs.

Smith was also the subject of KNOE's Gridiron Challenge feature. You can watch the feature here.

Smith is considered one of the most candid coaches in Northeast Louisiana, however his brash style sometimes rubbed others the wrong way. Dean is a former Ouachita linebacker and assistant coach.

Sports director Aaron Dietrich says the Wossman job should attract some great candidates from across the state.

The Wildcats moved into a new state of the art facility last season and have been a District 2-3A contender under Smith’s watch.
