Woman killed in French Quarter shooting

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - New Orleans Police officers have made an arrest after a homicide in the French Quarter.

Police say shortly after midnight Thursday, officers got a call of a shooting in the 900 block of Bourbon St. When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the face.

The victim worked at the Clover, according to witnesses.

She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The NOPD arrested Alexander Kirby, 33, in connection with the killing. Kirby was taken into custody at the scene by Louisiana State Police. and French Quarter Task Force officers.

Kirby was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death and release the victim’s identity after it notifies the family.

“A team member and one of our own lost her life this morning due to a senseless and devastating act. She was full of life, headstrong, and truly cared for everyone she surrounded herself by,” a co-worker said on social media.

The person identified the victim, but FOX 8 is waiting for an official identification before publishing the name.
