WINNSBORO, La. (Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office) - A Winnsboro woman is dead after an early-morning shooting.

According to Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb around 1:10am Sunday morning, the parish 911 received a call of shots fired in the area of Blanson and Smith Streets at a birthday party that had gotten out of control.

Upon arrival, deputies learned 21-year-old Waneshia Bush had been shot and transported in a personal vehicle to Franklin Medical Center, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

At this time, the investigations are ongoing and numerous individuals are being held for interviews. Cobb says multiple arrests are expected.

Sheriff Cobb said in a statement he personally knew Bush, and called her a fine person, in college, who was succeeding in her life. Cobb says her tragic death is the result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Cobb also said "when individuals who only have intentions of destroying lives act recklessly with disregard of human life, this is the result. We do not believe that this young lady was the intended target for any crime. It is my hope that those responsible will receive all the punishment they deserve through our legal system, and more.
She did not deserve this. Her family did not deserve this. Our community did not deserve this."

Cobb also expressed his thoughts and prayers to Bush's family and friends. He said, "her infectious smile and always positive attitude will be greatly missed."

Anyone with knowledge of the situation is asked to call the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 435-4505, the Winnsboro Police Department at (318 )435-4307, or stop an officer or deputy patrolling your streets.
