FRANKLIN PARISH, La. (KNOE) - The State Fire Marshal's Office says they've arrested a Winnsboro man accused of setting fire to his family home while his bedridden mother and disabled grandfather were inside.

According to Ashley Rodrigue, Public Affairs Director for the State Fire Marshal's Office, the fire happened on the morning of June 8, 2019, in the 300 block of Carter Street.

32-year-old Jonathan Armstrong was determined to have set the fire. Rodrigue says, "Investigators learned Armstrong had been arguing with his mother and grandfather through the night which led to him being asked to leave the home. When he refused, 911 was called. First responders reported seeing smoke coming from the home as they arrived. The fire, located in a bedroom, was extinguished without any injuries. In an interview with SFM deputies, Armstrong provided contradictory information to the evidence discovered at the scene. He was then placed under arrest."

Armstrong was booked into the Franklin Parish Detention Center on two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder and one count each of Aggravated Arson and Remaining After Forbidden.
