WEST MONROE, La, (KNOE) - A West Ouachita football player is recovering after taking a hard hit in Friday night's game against Bastrop high school.

Junior Jakobe Holland was airlifted to LSU Shreveport after suffering a concussion in Friday night's game.

Holland was on the ground for about 10 to 15 minutes before he was airlifted off the field.

KNOE talked to West Ouachita head coach Matt Middleton today, who says Holland is expected to be okay.

"He's stable, making progress in communication,” said Middleton. “They kept him overnight to make sure they were able to run some tests, but he is communicating with doctors this morning and they're going to continue to monitor him and take a couple more tests to check his neurological standing."

Middleton says he hopes Holland will be released Sunday.
