Boley Elementary fire caused by lightning strike

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - West Monroe Mayor Staci Albritton says the Boley Elementary School fire was caused by a lightning strike.

She says fire investigators viewed security camera footage shot near the school. The footage showed two lightning bolts hitting the school before the fire broke out.

The attached photo shows a lightning bolt hitting the school. According to the city, the West Monroe Fire Department obtained this screen capture from a camera on the building of Kimball’s Motorsports. It shows a lightning strike at Boley Elementary at 3:31 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Boley Elementary was destroyed by the April 13th fire. Over 200 students were displaced by the fire. Boley Elementary stood for 68 years.
