Weekend Events Oct. 11 - Oct. 13

Monroe Get ready, set, go! It's time for the 12th Annual Monroe Fire Department Fire Prevention 5k run and walk. The event starts at 8 am in Forsythe Park on Saturday, October 12th. You can register before the race between 6:45 am and 7:45 am. The fire department says this is a good way to remind people about fire safety and that the department will replace smoke alarms for free.

The Friends of Black Bayou is hosting their Fall Festival this Saturday the 12th. It goes hand in hand with the national wildlife refuge week, and it goes from 9 am until 2 pm. There’s face painting, activities for the whole family, free canoeing, and, of course, learning about the refuge and animals who live there.

Now to a longstanding tradition in Columbia Louisiana. The Schepis Museum is hosting it's 64th Annual Louisiana Art and Folk Festival with folklife demonstrations, art, live music and great food. There's a petting zoo, train rides, and activities for the kids. The event is on Saturday, October 12th from 10 am until 4 pm, and you can purchase tickets for $5 at the gate.

Craft beer, food trucks and artists will be set up on the Endom Bridge this Saturday. It's the annual Brew on the Bridge festival, which highlights the best of local breweries and restaurants. All the proceeds benefit the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, which preserves art throughout 11 parishes. It goes from 11 am to 2 pm. You can buy wristbands for $5 at the gate and that lets you sample all the different beers.

The Ike Hamilton will be home to trucks galore Saturday, October 12th with plenty of Halloween candy. Feel free to dress up. The proceeds benefit the group Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana. The event goes from 10 am until 3 pm. Tickets are 5 dollars per person and children under 2 are free.

The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana is hosting its Dia de la Familia event in Farmerville this Saturday the 12th from 2 pm until 6 pm. The group focuses its efforts on promoting healthy living and acceptance of all cultures and backgrounds. They say this event is filled with great food, music, and activities that highlight Hispanic heritage. The event is free to attend.

Moving over to El Dorado, they've got their Film Festival from Friday, October 11th to Saturday the 12th. Over the past six years, the event has been showcasing the best in independent cinema across South Arkansas. They'll have panels, workshops and more.

Just a few hours away in Vicksburg, the 31st Annual Over the River Run is getting underway this weekend on the 12th. It starts at 8 am with the 5k and the one-mile walk follows. Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for kids under 10. All the proceeds benefit the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Vicksburg and the Mississippi delta.
