WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The West Monroe Police Department says they've arrested a man on multiple drug charges after a short chase in which the man allegedly abandoned a child in a car.

According to arrest records, an officer tried to pull over 26-year-old Daniel Modicue Tuesday night on Coleman Avenue. The officer said the tint on the suspect's vehicle was extremely dark and he was unable to see the driver.

Police say Modicue refused to stop and continued down Coleman, turned on South 5th, and drove for eight more blocks before stopping in the middle of the roadway. Police say Modicue got out of the vehicle with a backpack, fled on foot into a home in the 300 block of Anderson Street, and went inside. The homeowner allowed police inside the home, where they allegedly found Modicue flushing marijuana down a toilet.

Police say they found 1.59 pounds of marijuana remaining, along with 63 hydrocodone pills, 50 alprazolam, and 285 units of ecstasy inside the backpack.

According to police, when they went to Modicue's vehicle, they found a 4-year-old child inside.

Modicue was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on charges including possession with intent to distribute CDS I, II, & IV along with charges of child desertion, obstruction of justice, CDS in the presence of persons under 17, and resisting an officer.
