MONROE, La (UH-Conway News Release) - The 2016-2017 school year starts late next week for many students across Northeast Louisiana. The days leading up to the start of school are normally a crunch time for parents. They need to make sure their children have all of the needed supplies, plus have all of the needed vaccinations.
On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, the Family Practice Clinic at University Health Conway will hold a back to school fair. It will run from 9am – 2pm at the facility at 4864 Jackson Street in Monroe. Parents will be able to have their child screened for vaccinations. If the child needs any vaccinations, medical professionals will be on hand to offer the shots at little to no charge. Appointments can also be made for vaccinations. The child will get a copy of their current vaccination record, so they can turn it in at the beginning of the school year. Students from ULM’s School of Pharmacy will be on hand to answer any questions parents may have about vaccinations.
Shopping for school supplies can be very costly, so a number of churches, the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office and University Health Conway employees have donated supplies. They will be handed out to children at the back to school fair, while supplies last. There will also be food and fun for the kids. Parents will be able to apply for enrollment under the state’s Medicaid expansion.
