UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Authorities say a Union Parish Detention Center guard has been fired and arrested after being accused of using excessive force on an inmate.

According to Johnny Gunter, media liaison for the Union Parish Sheriff's Office, 51-year-old Ricky L. Wallace of Ruston is charged with malfeasance in office and simple battery.

Gunter cites Sheriff Dusty Gates and reports the following:

"The sheriff said the warden filed the complaint with the sheriff’s office. Wallace, who turned 51 the day after he was arrested April 10, is charged with reportedly using excessive force on an inmate who was causing a disturbance, Gates said.

"The sheriff said the inmate, who was in an individual cell, would not quit yelling until three guards entered his cell. The unidentified inmate at that point jumped into his bed and covered up his entire body including his head.

"It was at this point, Gates said, that the guard allegedly attacked the inmate. The inmate did not require medical attention."

Bond was set at $7,500.
