A spokesperson for the University of Louisiana at Monroe says a defensive end who was arrested over the weekend has been suspended from football-related activity indefinitely.

The announcement of Kerry Starks' status came Tuesday afternoon from ULM's athletic department.

Starks was arrested on charges of domestic abuse battery and simple criminal damage to property just after midnight Sunday. The arrest was made in connection with an incident at Hammers Nightclub on Desiard Street in Monroe.

According to his arrest report, Starks allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the throat with both hands. He's then accused of grabbing her by the hair and attempting to drag her out of the club. When the woman tried to get in her car and leave, police say Starks stood behind her car and punched out her rear window with both hands.

Starks' girlfriend, Abriona Kirt, was also arrested. Her arrest report says she sprayed Starks in the back of the head with pepper spray after police placed Starks in handcuffs.

Police say both appeared drunk at the time of their arrests.
