WINNSBORO, La. (KNOE) - On Wednesday night, Winnsboro Police Department responded to a shooting in the 2100 hundred block of Roland Street. Witness said the shooting happened around 7 p.m.

Cayden Doyle shot by Dante Wilford, Wednesday night.

They said the alleged shooter, Dante Wilford, pulled the trigger trying to shoot at someone driving by, but the bullet hit the ground and ricocheted, hitting 2-year-old Cayden Doyle instead.

Pearli Normand is Doyle's grandmother who said Wilford is her nephew and Doyle's cousin. She has a strong and forgiving message for Wilford.

"I would let him know auntie loves him and that we are not holding nothing against him," she said. "And if he could take it all back, we know he would take it back."

Norman said she is praying her grandson pulls through, so he can get back to the things he loves.

"He loves watching Curious George and Mickey Mouse," she said.

Doyle's mother said her son is stable but is still in critical condition. Wilford has been booked into the Franklin Parish Jail. No detail on his bond or charges just yet.
