Two men accused of murder in Tensas Parish

TENSAS PARISH, La, (KNOE) - A year-old murder in Tensas Parish is closer to being solved.

Richardo Miles went missing in June 2017. Last week, deputies arrested two suspects.

Derrick Savage and John Fussell face second-degree murder charges in the death of Ricardo Miles.

While Miles' mother is still searching for more answers, John Fussell's family says there's no way he could have done this.

"It's almost impossible to deal with. I'm surprised I'm not on the fifth floor of somebody's hospital," Sarah Miles said.

Sarah Miles is still wondering what happened to her son, Ricardo. She says Ricardo went somewhere with a co-worker, Derrick Savage, and never returned. "I immediately knew something wasn't right because he said he'd be back in ten minutes and he never did."

Miles says she believes Savage, along with another co-worker, John Fussell, had something to do with her son's disappearance.

Investigators thought so too, so they arrested Savage and Fussell last week.

Fussell's family believes he didn't have anything to do with Richardo's disappearance.

"He's not a murderer at all," Fussell's daughter, Renee Fussell, said. "Anybody in this community can tell you that he's got a heart of gold. He'd give the shirt off his back for anybody."

Family members say Fussell was with his grandson when the crime happened.

"He wasn't even around the place during that time like I said, we were struggling, trying to get scrap iron and go move houses," said Fussell's grandson Dylan Bamburg.

Both families say there was some sort of argument between the three men before Ricardo went missing.

"Even though he and grandpa did have an altercation, that's still no reason or him to come up dead," Bamburg said.

"It just was a bad situation. I'm just going to say that," said Sarah Miles.

It was an argument that didn't have to end the way it did.

"I want to say to the family that I'm really sorry that this had happened, but I promise on everything, that I know that my father didn't do this," said Renee Fussell.

"My son was a good person and he didn't deserve anything bad," Sarah Miles said.

No bond is set for Savage. Fussell's bond is set for $525,000.
