Two charged after agents allegedly find 5 kilos of cocaine in vehicle
Two men were arrested after officers say they found five kilos of cocaine in their car.
Alberto Ramirez-Portillo and Jose Diaz are both facing felony drug charges after metro narcotics agents found the suspected cocaine underneath the center console of their car.
According to arrest records, the two were stopped for an unspecified traffic violation. Deputies say the suspects were acting nervously, so they asked to search the vehicle. That's when they say they found the cocaine.
The suspects were later interviewed at Metro Narcotics, according to the arrest report.
Diaz told deputies he got in the car with the other suspect in San Angelo, Texas, and that they were on their way to Pennsylvania to pick up heavy equipment.
Diaz said he is a commercial truck driver who works for Ramirez-Portillo and that he had no knowledge of the narcotics in the vehicle, which he said belongs to Ramirez-Portillo.
Records indicate that Diaz was issued a citation for the traffic violation, again unspecified, and was transferred to the Ouachita Correctional Center where he was booked.
Ramirez-Portillo exercised his Miranda rights and refused to answer any questions.
Both were charged with the possession of schedule II narcotics with intent to distribute.
