Two cars catch fire two nights in a row in Monroe

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Neighbors in the Town and Country apartment complex rushed out of their homes after hearing loud banging and cracking. What they saw, they said, was shocking.

"I came outside and I see this car behind me blazing," Jeremiah Wright, a witness, said.

The owner said she went to sleep with her car perfectly fine and woke up to a burned out shell.

"It sucks to see that it's gone in a blink of an eye," Alexis Dauzart, the victim, said.

This isn't the first time neighbors woke up to something like this. Another car caught fire around the same time Sunday morning.

"I work really hard for my stuff and it was almost paid for. I didn't have much left on it," Dauzat said.

The Ouachita Parish Fire Department doesn't believe the two incidents are connected. One fire investigator said the fires started in different locations of the cars.

"I think it's a crazy coincidence, but you don't see anything like this every day, especially being so close to home like this," Wright said.

"If it had been two minutes late before the fire department got here, it would have been worst. The car could have exploded," Wright said.

The fire department said it's still too early to tell if this is a crime scene, but they did say it looks suspicious.

Both victims said they don't understand how this happened.

"I don't see why I would cause a threat to anyone. I mind my businesses. I go to school and go to work that's about it," Dauzart said.

Investigators still don't know how both of the cars caught fire. They want anyone with any information with this fire and many others to call their office at (318) 325-1621.
