Two-car crash on US 167 kills Spearsville man
Around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 167 just south of Bernice, Louisiana. This crash claimed the life of a Spearsville man.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Mack 18-wheeler driven by 46-year-old Tarrance T. Thompson of Jonesboro, Louisiana was traveling north in the right lane. A 2002 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 47-year-old Kerry L. McNeal of Spearsville, Louisiana was also traveling north in the right lane. For reasons still under investigation, the pick-up struck the rear of the 18-wheeler at a high rate of speed.
McNeal was unrestrained and died from injuries sustained in the crash. Thompson was not injured in the crash and showed no signs of impairment. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
A toxicology sample was taken from McNeal. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and being properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
In 2018, Troop F has investigated 13 fatal crashes resulting in 16 deaths.
