Trump, Edwards meet with evacuees, link up in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, LA. (KNOE 8 News) - It was a busy Saturday for President Trump and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards.

Edwards started his day in Alexandria, where he toured the state's mega shelter with his wife Donna. It was the governor's second time visiting the shelter since Thursday, and he said he wanted to make sure everyone was being taken care of.

"So, I thought it was important to come back today and make sure that they have everything that they need," he said. "The folks here are so grateful for the way that they are being taken care of. And of course I appreciate the folks from Texas and we know what they are going through because we have faced that a lot of times in Louisiana. But, I'm very thankful for the folks here in Louisiana who are taking such good care of our neighbors as well. I just wanted to come and personally make sure that they have everything that they need to take the best possible care of the folks from Texas and that is happening."

Meantime, President Trump started his day in Houston, where he and Texas Governor Greg Abbott talked to evacuees at Houston's NRG Stadium.

Then Trump and Edwards left their destinations, and met up in Lake Charles, Louisiana. the president was greeted by Edwards, and the two Louisiana senators - Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy.
