Truck driver charged after crash that killed 2 adults & toddler from Olla
Louisiana State Police released new information this week on the fatal accident in LaSalle Parish involving an 18-wheeler.
They say the truck driver, Joseph Pardue, 33, of Georgetown, has now been charged with negligent homicide (three counts), negligent injuring (one count), reckless operation, and driving an unsafe vehicle. He has been booked into the LaSalle Parish Jail.
Two adults and a toddler from Olla were killed following a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Hwy 127 on Monday, July 29, 2019. It happened around 11:30 a.m. when the 17-year-old driver of a Ford Fiesta slowed down to make a right turn and collided with the 18-wheeler. After the impact, the Ford Fiesta overturned and the 18-wheeler hit a tree.
The three passengers, identified as Vicki Sears, 45, Brittney Martin, 24, and a three-year-old toddler, were pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified juvenile driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries. She was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center after the crash.
Police initially said that the toddler was not in a child safety seat, but further investigation of the heavily damaged vehicle revealed that the child was, in fact, in a child safety seat. Police say the driver and the other passengers were not wearing seat belts, however.
Pardue was wearing his seat belt and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported to Hardtner Medical Center for treatment.
