Kids participated in sack races and other competitions while jumping around in bounce houses and other games.

People also enjoyed cotton candy, popcorn and other snacks as well.

Officials say it's all about giving people a chance to have some free fun with their neighbors. "It's really just an opportunity for the community to come out and enjoy each other's company," says Sterlington alderman Zack Howse.

"We decided this needed to happen. So, we put it together pretty quick,” says Sterlington alderman Matt Talbert. “We had a lot of people jump in early on and say 'Hey, I want to be a part of this,' sponsored it, was able to provide the funds to have all this stuff here tonight."

City officials are already working on making next year's community day bigger and better.
