Fredrick Louis qualified on Friday to enter the race for the seat currently held by longtime mayor Jamie Mayo. Louis is one of four candidates challenging Mayo for his seat.

We sat down with Louis on Thursday. He says he wants to focus on city unity. He says, if elected, he wants to throw citywide events to bring all areas of the city together.

He also wants to prevent crime among our youth. As a youth mentor, he says he has the experience to do it.

"My slogan is we're working together for better," Louis said. "And I want to bring the people of Monroe together. I want to bridge the gap where we may be lacking economically. I want to bridge the gap where we may be lacking as a people, as a whole, and focus on developing and cultivating this city to become something that our potential says that we can be."

Jamie Mayo, L. Marie Brown, Friday Elllis, and Ronnie Scott also qualified to run.

The election is April 4th, 2020.
