Suspect in two Monroe shootings arrested

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Authorities have arrested a man suspected of multiple shootings in Monroe, including one in which the victim died.

Authorities arrested 19-year-old Demarrius Alexander on Monday, May 18, 2020.

According to police in Monroe, Alexander is suspected of killing Aubrey Johnson. Johnson was found dead on April 11, 2020, in the 200 block of Hippolyte. Monroe police say video footage captured the shooting and a warrant for second-degree murder was issued for Alexander's arrest.

Alexander was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on a charge of second-degree murder in that case.

Alexander is also charged in connection with a shooting that happened in the 3300 block of Polk Street on March 30, 2020. Reports indicate that there were four potential victims in the line of fire during that shooting. For this incident, Alexander was booked on four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and two counts of criminal damage to property.

He was also charged with two counts of illegal use of weapons or a dangerous instrument.
