Student charged with bringing gun to Richland Parish school

RICHLAND PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Authorities in Richland Parish have arrested a student accused of bringing a gun to school.

The student was identified as 18-year-old Jeffery W. Williams Jr.

The Richland Parish Sheriff's Office says they received a tip that Williams would be bringing a gun to Delhi Charter School on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

They say officials met Williams outside the school in the morning and escorted him to a secure area. They say he was searched and a loaded firearm was found in his backpack.

Authorities say no students or faculty were in danger during the incident.

They say Williams fully cooperated and told them that he was carrying the gun for protection.

He has no prior criminal history.

He was booked on a charge of Illegal Carrying of a Firearm by a Student on School Property.
