CATAHOULA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - A Sicily Island High School teacher has resigned following accusations from students and parents.
Parents and students accused the teacher, who was also an athletic coach, of making degrading comments towards the African American students in the class.
They say the incident happened before the 2019 Christmas break.
Catahoula Parish Schools Superintendent Ronald Lofton confirmed that the teacher resigned on Feb. 7.
Additionally, Lofton said that the school system did look into the accusations prior to the teacher's resignation.
