McIntyre street might be quiet on Monday, but on Friday evening the Lasalle Parish Sheriff's Office says this home was surrounded by law enforcement.
"My 911 center received a call from a person stating that her sister was being held at gunpoint at a residence in the Goodpine community," says Sheriff Scott Franklin.
But Franklin says when the officers arrived no one would answer the door.
"Of course in a situation like that you just don't kick the door in and run in you don't know what you are running into and so we were able to get his pastor and his brother there and they were able to get him to the door," says Franklin.
That man who was inside the home was 66-year-old Melvin Gardner.
From there deputies were able to search the house.
"A subsequent search of the house revealed Jamie Bates 31 year old white female was already deceased in one of his backrooms," says Franklin.
He says the two knew each other and Bates would stay at his place off and on.
"No indication to what the cause is for the most part Mr. Gardner was a quiet man that we really didn't ever have any dealings with he kind of kept to himself," says Franklin.
The sheriff says its a complicated case, but they are working to make sure justice is served.
Gardner is charged with second degree murder. His bond is set at $500,000.
