Suspect ID released in Highway 3033 shooting

UPDATE: 10/3/2017 - 3:47 pm: Authorities have identified the suspect who was killed as 22-year-old Marquinton T. Brooks of Monroe.

Louisiana State Police continues to investigate.

According to an arrest affidavit for the passenger in the vehicle, William Underwood, authorities say the driver would not comply with officers when stopped and attempted to drive away. The deputy reached inside the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle and, according to the arrest affidavit, the driver put the deputy in a headlock.

The report says the deputy on the passenger side came to help, at which point Underwood, the passenger, got out of the vehicle and fled. The report says the deputies used a taser on the driver and then the driver pulled out a gun. That's when one deputy opened fire, killing the driver.

The report says some marijuana, meth and roughly a dozen bars of Alprazolam were found in the vehicle. The name of the driver has yet to be released.

William Underwood was arrested on drug and firearms charges.

UPDATE: 10/02/17 10:42 p.m.

Louisiana State Police say a driver was shot and killed during a traffic stop by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office. It happened on Guyton Road near Highway 3033.

No deputies were reported injured.

Highway 3033 was shut down for more than 2 hours. It's now open to traffic.

Louisiana State Police are investigating a deputy-involved shooting near Guyton Road and Highway 3033.

Deputies on the scene say 3033 will be closed for several more hours.

Authorities have closed portions of Highway 3033 in Ouachita Parish. KNOE is currently on the scene where several sheriff's deputies are stationed. People who live in the area say they were told there was a shooting, but those reports have yet to be confirmed by authorities.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in Ouachita Parish just south of West Monroe along Highway 3033.
