(KNOE) - Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced the Senate passage of a move to stop robocalls.
Last year Americans got about 26 billion robocalls nationwide.
The Traced Act gives the federal government more time to catch scammers and increases penalties on scammers making robocalls. It also pushes cellular carriers to verify that incoming calls are legitimate.
Kennedy says, "Robocalls are a nuisance and an intrusion into family dinners, jobs, weddings, graduations, and ballet recitals. 'The Traced Act' equips the FCC to take action against robocallers who repeatedly flout the law and disrupt our daily lives."
