Tyra Washington, a Ruston native, is taking the stage Tuesday, August 13th, for PBS's Celebration of Music. She'll be singing 'Waiting for Life" from the musical 'Once on This Island'.
PBS's website says the show is all about celebrating talented kids across America.
"I started singing at the church, so I've been singing forever," says Washington. She also competes in pageants and is involved in theater.
She says she sent an audition tape out and was so excited to hear back, "And then one day they told me you got selected to do the show and we were like, 'What?'"
"Singers, musicians, bands, and dancers between the ages of 4 and 25 are all encouraged to enter in their city by submitting an audition tape," according to the Celebration of Music's website.
