RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - The city of Ruston celebrated the progress of their interchange project connecting Tarbutton road and I-20 today.

The project began six months ago, and Ruston Mayor Ronny Walker says it's been a long time coming.

"We've been working on these projects for two and a half, three years," he says, "this particular one twenty-three, twenty-four years."

The interchange's cost is expected to be 25-million dollars and is being paid by the federal, state, and local government.

"The Ruston money mostly came from our T-I-D which is Tax Incremental District, " Walker says, "which is up and down the interstate."

The interchange will benefit traffic coming in and out of Louisiana Tech and adds another entrance to the city.

"The entire Lincoln Parish will greatly benefit from this," Walker says.

The city expects construction to be finished within the next three years.
