Previous Story:
Accused child murderer Russell Flowers has been denied bond in the death of 5-year-old Brooklyn Scout Brister. Flowers originally claimed the girl had drowned in the river.

Flowers made his first appearance without an attorney and his case has been referred to the public defender's office.

According to a police report, Clarissa Hector reported her daughter, Brooklyn Scout Brister, drowned in the Ouachita River behind her residence on Hooter Road in Monroe.

However, on Tuesday, Clarissa Hector admitted she lied about the drowning in the river because Flowers, who owns and lives at the residence, threatened to kill her if she did not lie.

Hector says Flowers struck the child with a belt and made her get in a hot bathtub. During much of the alleged beating, Hector says Flowers held a gun to her, so she could not help her daughter.

The preliminary autopsy shows the child had belt marks on her legs. Her brain was swollen, and the pathologist says she died from heat exposure.
