MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Storms ripped through Monroe on Monday night and also ripped through a church in the city. Pastor of Martin Temple C.M.E. Church Jessie F. Manuel says she got a call that the roof was blown off.

She says the church was being renovated at the time, so the congregation has been worshipping elsewhere for the past few years.
Now, she and others are asking people to donate their time and money to help the church that has helped so many others.
"During the time they were out of this building, Martin Temple's congregation continued to feed people over here, gave away clothing,” says T.J. Stevenson, community activist.
“Every Thanksgiving, this church has been here. This congregation has been here to give out Thanksgiving dinner, the entire dinner for this community. We owe Martin Temple. We owe them."
Manuel says while they hope to one day have church again in that building, they're also looking at possibly turning it into a community center or home among other things to re-use the building.
