RPSO: Louisiana man tracked down after using stolen credit card to pay for hotel

Investigators say they were able to track down the suspect because he paid for his hotel room with the stolen debit card number.

SHREVEPORT, La. (KNOE) - A Louisiana man has been arrested on drug and identity theft charges, according to the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say 47-year-old John Allen Tharp, of Bossier City, was arrested on Aug. 9, 2019, in response to a complaint filed at the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 8. According to the sheriff's office, someone noticed several unauthorized purchases made on his debit card.

RPSO says they tracked the suspect to a Red Roof Inn in Shreveport. Investigators say they were able to track down the suspect because he paid for his hotel room with the stolen debit card number.

Shreveport PD arrested Tharp at the hotel. Police say Tharp was in possession of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia.

Tharp was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on 10 counts of identity theft as well as unspecified drug charges.
