OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - A Jonesboro man has been arrested on a slew of charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase while drunk, then slamming into a Louisiana State Police vehicle.

According to Louisiana State Police, the chase started on Well Road in the early morning hours of May 13th. A state trooper says he noticed that a headlamp was out on a vehicle driven by Roger Derek Schanks. He says when he tried to pull Schanks over, the vehicle got onto Interstate 20, then swerved onto the shoulder and over the center line several times, while speeding up to around 90 miles per hour.

Police say they were able to stop Schanks after he got off the I-20 at exit 103. During the chase, police say Schanks avoided a spike strip, crashed into a guardrail and sped up, ramming a state police vehicle head-on.

When police arrested Schanks, they say they discovered that there was an interlock device on his vehicle that would have prevented Schanks from driving drunk, had it not been disabled.

Schanks is charged with:
DWI, 5th Offense
Aggravated Assault on an Officer
Aggravated Flight
Resisting an Officer
Driving Under Suspension
Ignition Interlock Device Offenses
Headlamp Out
