MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Discover Monroe-West Monroe hosted its first ChillFest on Saturday. People cooled off with local artists and vendors, live music and even water slides for the kids.

There was even freeze tag and human curling for people to take part in as well as a dunking booth.

Convention and Visitors Bureau president Alana Cooper says it's to keep cool in this August heat.

"It was kind of a new idea to do something fun in August,” Cooper says. “School's starting back, so people are looking for something to do with their kids just to get out, have fun.

Cooper says people from all over the northeast Louisiana and surrounding states came together to make it a success. “Our community gets to enjoy it, but we also get to have people who come in from out of town to enjoy it and have something fun to do on a warm day, but hopefully keep a little cool."

ChillFest 2019 ended with a performance from the Cleverlys.
