Parents, community in Morehouse Parish getting to know school board candidates
Each candidate spent most of the time talking about what they'd bring to the table. Unity, keeping children first and discipline were all addressed.
The current school board recently passed a new policy on school fighting that went into effect this year. Parents and residents said they want someone who's going to advocate to make the school district better.
Folks said they want someone who's going to fight and lobby to improve Morehouse Parish as a whole.
"They're not getting the right material when they're not being educated right. We have good teachers, but it's like the board is not helping our kids," Evelyn Harris, a resident, said.
Louisiana Association of Educators hosted the forum. They said funding is something all of rural Northeast Louisiana struggles with, which is why they're hosting candidate forums across the state up until election time.
"Morehouse is a rural, small, underfunded parish. It's hard to provide things when the state has not provided for 12 years." Ray Hodges, the Organization Specialist with LAE, said.
Voters head to the polls Nov. 6th.
