OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley said the free COVID-19 mobile testing in Northeast Louisiana has been successful.

Smiley said many test sites in the region, including in Ouachita parish, have hit their goal of testing 50 people per day.

Smiley said he wants people to remember as they see more positive cases that testing has increased as well.

However, he still wants people to practice proper safety measures.

Smiley said, especially with nicer weather and Memorial Day coming up, it can be tempting to want to congregate.

He said he's still encouraging people to wear a mask and social distance when possible, and to not let their guard down.

"I think we just need to stay positive and stay the course, do the things that got us to this point, and hopefully we'll start to see the decrease in numbers here in the near future and I hope that everyone has a safe and healthy weekend ahead of them," he said.

Testing will be happening Monday through Friday from 8 am to 11 am until June 12th. To view testing locations, click here .
