OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old escapee who reportedly fired shots at a sheriff's deputy has been taken into custody.

Investigators say 17-year-old Brandon Kaleb McClain sparked a manhunt in Ouachita Parish on Wednesday after he failed to pull over for the deputy, subsequently firing shots at that deputy. McClain is an escapee from the Green Oaks Juvenile Detention Center who escaped on Saturday.

According to Sheriff Jay Russell, a deputy tried to pull McClain over on Cypress Street at about 12:19 p.m. on Wednesday. He says McClain sped off and the deputy pursued the suspect where he took a left on Vancil and a right into the Westlakes Subdivision. This is when, Sheriff Russell says, the suspect began shooting at the deputy through the rear windshield. Other law enforcement units arrived on the scene and the suspect abandoned his vehicle. The suspect's vehicle was recovered shortly thereafter.

Authorities searched the Westlakes Subdivision and surrounding areas throughout the night and into Thursday. They maintained a presence there until McClain was captured around 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Sheriff Russell said the suspect will be charged with one count of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

At this time, authorities have not released any details of McClain's capture.
