The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office hosted its annual church security course Saturday.

Security team members from Ouachita Parish churches took the eight-hour class to learn tips and best practices on how to protect their congregations.

They learned how to organize teams, meet dangerous people outside of the church and keep them outside, as well as other tips.

Officials say it's important churches are able to be secured. "In today's time, churches have to protect themselves and the members protect themselves,” Capt. Ricky Bacle says. “Police and law enforcement can't be everywhere. So, that's what we're providing for today."

More than 240 people attended this year's course.
