Ouachita Parish NAACP asks men to "Pledge for A Better Vision in 2020"
The Ouachita Parish NAACP is asking men to "Pledge for A Better Vision in 2020."
The project chair, Louis Scott, said they feel men have been a large part of the violence problem, so they're challenging them to be part of the solution.
The pledge would involve exercising self-control so that conflict doesn't escalate to violence. It would also involve encouraging others to do the same.
"Because as young people, you're going to run into stressful situations, and if you don't have any type of training or mentoring relating to how you deal with stressful situations, then you're going to overreact," he said.
The group is hoping to get 1000 men in the parish to take the pledge. They will be asking men to take the pledge at the MLK parade at the Monroe Zoo Charles Johnson Park on Monday.
