Ouachita Live is kicking off their second concert this week

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Astro Motel will be taking the stage this Friday (May 26) as part of the Ouachita Live Concert Series. The series started in March and runs until October with live music the last Friday of each month.

The Downtown West Monroe Revitalization Group says they've been working to get a concert series on Antique Alley for years now.

The group partnered with the Northeast Lousiana Arts Council, the City of West Monroe, and the West Monroe - West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce to bring it all together.

They say it's a great way to bring people to downtown West Monroe and give people throughout Ouachita Parish something to do.

"A lot of word got out about it, so we're expecting even a higher attendance this next week," says West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell. "But it's all about adding things to our community, community events, quality of life, just things to do for our people to enjoy."

The Downtown West Monroe Revitalization group says the concerts will be on Pine Street in West Monroe until Alley Park is finished with construction. Once that area is open the group says they're looking to bring in food trucks before the music starts.

Right now, they say the bands are from all across the country, but next season they want to shake things up.

"We know there's a lot of great bands in this area, so what we're hoping to do going into our second season - because this isn't something that we're just doing this year," says Karen Laban with the Downtown West Monroe Revitalization group. "So going into the second season we're hoping to add a local opening group then have a larger group."

Laban says the concerts are free, but it's best to bring chairs with you.
